At least 59 people were shot across Chicago, six of them fatally, by Tuesday morning of the Fourth of July weekend.
Last year’s Independence Day weekend ended with 66 people shot — a total that actually stoked cautious optimism with the lowest death toll for the July 4 weekend in nearly a decade.
President Trump’s administration has sent in Federal agents to combat the out of control violence in Obama’s ‘hometown’ of Chicago.
The Chicago Sun-Times first reported that about 20 additional agents with the U.S. Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives have been sent to the city.
Trump and Attorney General Jeff Sessions confirmed Friday that the federal government is sending help, while decrying the crime epidemic on the city’s streets.
“We’ll have an impact in reducing shootings in Chicago,” he said, while saying police there are “demoralized” and city policies are not working, Fox reports.
“Murders are way, way too high,” he said.
Sessions subsequently released a written statement saying the administration has created the Chicago Gun Strike Force and is sending “20 more permanent ATF agents to Chicago, reallocating federal prosecutors and prioritizing prosecutions to reduce gun violence” and working with law enforcement partners.
“The Trump Administration will not let the bloodshed go on; we cannot accept these levels of violence,” he said.
Trump tweeted – “Crime and killings in Chicago have reached such epidemic proportions that I am sending in Federal help. 1714 shootings in Chicago this year!”

reported that Chicago had nearly 4,400 shootings and nearly 800 homicides in 2016. Moreover, there were more than 300 individuals shot in the first 30 days of 2017 alone. As violence surged, Breitbart News reported that Chicago Police Board Chairwoman Lori Lightfoot wanted federal help. NPR quoted Lightfoot saying:
We need to have more federal gun prosecutions in Chicago. Our federal partners from the U.S. attorney’s office, the ATF, the FBI need to be much more invested in this overall strategy. Chicago Police Department cannot tackle this issue by itself.
Gun crime raged in gun-controlled Chicago to such a degree that on April 25, 2017, the Chicago Tribune reported that the Windy City passed “1,000 gunshot victims for the year.” Now Trump indicates “1714 shootings” by June 30.
On January 24, 2017–just days after his inauguration–Trump addressed the “carnage” in Chicago, pledging to “send in the feds” if local leaders could not stem the tide of violence. He is now signaling that the feds are on their way.
Amanda Shea at Freedom Daily reports that President Trump is the first leader to actually address with the killing spree that never ceases in Chicago. The city’s Mayor doesn’t even do anything about it and neither did Obama who calls the Windy City his former home. Thousands of lives could have been spared had Obama taken action like this while he was in office, but instead, he proved that black lives don’t really matter to him — it was just something he liked to talk about to incite more violence and divisiveness.
Unlike Obama, Trump isn’t going to say something he doesn’t plan on following through on. He said he’ll drain the swamp and he’s doing just that in addition to finally addressing what’s gone unchecked in Chicago for far too long. It’s incredible to finally have a president who doesn’t mess around and simply gets things done regardless of who opposes his plan of action in doing so.
HELL YEAH! CLEAN THAT GHETTO UP.
THROW THESE THUGS IN PRISON AND MAKE THEM BUILD THE FREAKING WALL OR PICK FRUITS AND VEGETABLES!
